This is NOT going to be an excuse for me to show off my art and/or resourcefulness skills. I keep having to tell myself that as I plan out this post.

That was from when I went to Warped Tour in San Diego and got the band to sign my art aaaaahhhh!!!

This was created with Adobe Photoshop CC (2017 version)

I’m gonna assume y’all are total newbies and explain everything, so sorry if you feel like I’m mansplaining or dumbing it down too much.

Time to Art

Basically, all you need to do is grab a random image.

I just Googled “heart drawing” and saved this pic. Then I opened it up in Photoshop.

Then, open up a new layer.

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR LAYERS!!! If you don’t, you’ll regret it. It’s like an onion with lots of layers. And yes, it makes you cry.

If your background layer is locked, unlock it by pressing on the lock icon. It should then say “Layer 0” or something.

Adjust the opacity of the background layer so that it’s translucent.

Go to layer 1 and start tracing out your drawing. Add more layers as needed.

For example, I traced the outline of my heart. Then I added another layer and traced the veins. Then, I used another layer for the shading and colouring.

To colour/shade, I used the colour picker (eyedropper tool) and pressed the area of my picture I wanted to colour in first, so it would make my brush the same colour as the original image.

After colouring in that part, I did the same for another part of my drawing–not the shadows, but the highlights. I used the brush tool to colour, adjusting the size of the brush.

Then, I used the smudge tool to blend the colours together.

You can add a few other things to your drawing–I added the rose and the dagger (also using images I found on Google). All I had to do was press control+t to adjust the images into position. After I was done, I either deleted the reference images or I made them not visible (in case I needed them again later to fix up my drawing). To make them not visible, just press the eye button.

Now you’re done! Congratulations on becoming a fake artist!
